Foundation for MetroWest (Crossroads
Community Foundation) Grant Received
Judy Golden (center), Operation Outreach-USA President,
gratefully received a donation check from the Crossroads Community Foundation
(now known as the Foundation for MetroWest) of Natick, MA.
The Foundation serves as a resource, leader and catalyst for philanthropy in
MetroWest Boston by connecting donors with nonprofits, and nonprofits with
each other.
The Foundation uses a unique process to determine which
applicant organizations will be awarded grants for programs that serve
children. The Foundation describes it
this way: “Youth development is an
important part of Crossroads’ grantmaking activities; we support initiatives
that enrich and improve the lives of MetroWest children. What makes our grants unique is that grants
are made by local youth, for local youth through our Youth in Philanthropy
program. Area high school students
receive in-depth philanthropy training, then review grant proposals and make
funding decisions in conjunction with foundation staff. Thus Crossroads accomplishes two goals: to
provide aid to underserved children in our region, and to enable local youth
to participate in the decision-making process.”
Students from the Youth Action Council attended the
Crossroads Community Foundation annual meeting, at which they made the check
presentations to recipient organizations.
Operation Outreach-USA will use this grant to provide our
literacy and character-building program to 125 students at the Avery Elementary School
in Dedham, MA.

Malcolm T. Stamper Legacy Fund
In honor of our founder, Operation Outreach-USA has established the Malcolm
T. Stamper Legacy Fund. Mr. Stamper loved children and worked tirelessly to
help all children lead happy lives. Giving children the gift of literacy
through books that they would own and that taught character and good
citizenship was his passion.
Memorial gifts to the Fund will be restricted to providing the OO-USA program
to elementary schools with large at-risk populations, starting in Detroit, where Mr. Stamper spent his childhood, and in Seattle, where Mr.
Stamper resided with his family.
All contributors will receive annual updates on the use of the fund and the
impact that their gifts are having on the lives of young people.
Gifts can be sent to the MTS Legacy Fund, c/o Operation Outreach-USA, 360 Woodland Street, Holliston, MA 01746,
or via the web through the Network For Good. Click on the “Donate Now” button
on the left. Checks should be made payable to Operation Outreach–USA.
